2005 – I composed this piece after a visit to Malta as part of a video project with Scott Edwards, a Liverpool diver, who had a house there. I was completely blown away by the various megalithic temples. I spent many hours with my videocamera at the Mnajdra complex, where, at the time, you could walk freely and wasn't covered. Being very familiar with the world famous Stonehenge, I had no idea that Malta even had temples from this period. It turned out that one of them, Ggantija, is over 5,500 years old and is the world's second oldest man-made religious structure! There is also an underground site called The Hypogeum, which is older than Stonehenge! Why there aren't as many documentaries and programmes about these temples is a complete mystery to me. They are amazing! Visit Malta if you can.
